EVANS COUNTY COURTHOUSE
----Located in the center of Claxton, next to West Main St., the courthouse is one of the most beautiful architectural designs for county government operations in Southeast Georgia. ----Constructed during 1922-23, J.J. Baldwin was the architect for the project and it was built by West Point Iron Works at a cost of $60,000 to the citizens of Evans County. ----The structure has undergone several facelifts and additions over the years, including extensive renovation in the courtroom and offices of county officials. ----A memorial to the county's citizens who served and died in war is located near the southside entrance, and a marker on the southeast corner of the site designates U.S. Hwy. 280 as a Blue Star Highway in honor of America's veterans. The bell tower clock was restored in 2003 under a contract authorized by the Evans Board of Commissioners.
