EVANS COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

More than 2000 students are enrolled in grades Pre-K through 12. The grades are divided as follows:
• Claxton High, Grades 9-12
• Claxton Middle, Grades 6-8
• Claxton Elementary, Grades K-5
• Pre-Kindergarten housed in a facility on middle school campus
• In School Suspension Program and Alternative School housed on campus separate from schools
Claxton High, Middle, and Elementary are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission.
The Reading Challenge Program provides quality after-school care and opportunities to improve reading skills for 40 students.
Counseling and guidance services provided by certified guidance counselors at each school
Band, chorus, music, art, and physical education programs taught at all levels by persons fully certified in those fields.
Students have access to the World Wide Web at all three schools.
School nutrition program serves breakfast and lunch with an average daily participation greater than 8% systemwide.
Evans County Pre-Kindergarten provides developmentally appropriate instruction to four-year-olds in well-equipped classrooms. Teachers are fully certified and teacher assistants receive extensive training.

Formerly with the Treutlen County school system, Soperton, Georgia, Marion Shaw became Superintendent of Evans County Schools in 2004. He is committed to excellence in public education and encourages parents and prospective students to visit the growing facilities in Claxton.

Many improvements and new construction projects are currently underway or recently completed, made possible by a one percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by the voters.
Board of Education members are: Mike Dollar, Ronnie Spikes, Sharon Haire, Pat Dixon, Tomain Murphy,Jim McElveen, and Steve NeSmith (Chairman). Regular board meetings are conducted the second Monday of each

PINEWOOD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Pinewood Christian Academy is a private, non-denominational, Christian, college preparatory day school that currently enrolls students from Evans and surrounding counties.
Founded in 1970, the school offers quality education to boys and girls in grades K-12. PCA is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) and has been accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission since the 1978-79 school year. The highly qualified and dedicated faculty and staff includes many who hold advanced degrees. They are chosen for their love of young people, professional qualifications and dedication to the principles of PCA.

Pinewood is governed by a Board of Governors, all of whom donote their time and expertise to help the school meet the needs of its growing student population.
