Who Were the DeLoach's and the Katzif's? Information published in the Evans County History Book about 15 years ago states that the structure shown above was built around 1920 for the Henry DeLoach family of Claxton. Family members later converted the home to a hotel, appropriately named the DeLoach Hotel. Around 1937 the building is believed to have been acquired by Mr. and Mrs. M. Katzif, who remodeled and reopened the facility as Hotel Henry. The hotel was operated by Mae Alderman until it was destroyed by fire on January 28, 1940. If anyone can provide additional information about the Henry DeLoach family, please contact The Claxton Enterprise. Perhaps Henry DeLoach has direct descendants still residing in Evans County. Also, we would like to know the name of 'M. Katzif', instead of only the initial. Please send information to: mpeace@claxtonenterprise.com or advertising@claxtonenterprise.com.
