EVANS COUNTY COURTHOUSE
----Located in the center of Claxton, next to West Main St., the courthouse is one of the most beautiful architectural designs for county government operations in Southeast Georgia.
----Constructed during 1922-23, J.J. Baldwin was the architect for the project and it was built by West Point Iron Works at a cost of $60,000 to the citizens of Evans County.
----The structure has undergone several facelifts and additions over the years, including extensive renovation in the courtroom and offices of county officials.
----A memorial to the county's citizens who served and died in war is located near the southside entrance, and a marker on the southeast corner of the site designates U.S. Hwy. 280 as a Blue Star Highway in honor of America's veterans. The bell tower clock was restored in 2003 under a contract authorized by the Evans Board of Commissioners.

It took perseverance, determination, and the work of many citizens to bring together "A History of Evans County, Georgia." Coordinated by Dorothy Durrence Simmons, left, the 594-page book is filled with maps, photographs, accounts of Evans County history, listings of cemeteries and profiles of our pioneering families.
