To learn more about public meetings and your local officials: When you go to The Enterprise website, look at the menu listings on the left side of the home page. Select 'Evans County'. The Evans County page includes some history of the county, the current members of the Board of Commissioners, and their regular meeting schedule. You can repeat the process for the towns of Claxton, Bellville, Daisy and Hagan, by choosing the town's name from the drop-down menu under 'Evans County'.

We moved to Claxton from Pembroke last year in December and for the most part, I love it. I am wondering however if I can get some information on when and where town meetings are held.

I just want to send a HUGE shout out THANK YOU so very much to the gentleman at Advanced Auto in Claxton, Ga. I feel terrible that I did not get his name but I will. My trunk would not close and I had tied it down – this may be okay to drive locally but I work in Savannah and the distance is significant. I was wracking my brain, had a horrible headache stressing about how I was going to get this fixed and as is the case for just about everyone – money is extremely tight. No idea what too do – all I knew was there was no way I could drive to Savannah with my trunk like this. I went over to Advanced Auto in Claxton where I live and asked if they had any idea what I could do. The gentleman behind the counter had several customers but he said – I'll have someone look at it. This great guy comes out and says you're having a problem with the trunk? I said, pitifully, Yes.... It took a little time but he got the latch working, shut my trunk and it stayed and when I asked how much -- No charge.... I was almost in tears but kept my composure... The kindness of some people still amazes me and solidifies the goodness of people God has touched. Thank you so much - kind sir....: }

So Delvis Dutton is going to challenge Congressman John Barrow. Is this the best we can do? Considering the lineup of current Republican candidates, Barrow is all but guaranteed another term in the House.

I thought the expansion of the county's fire-fighting capabilities and building those new fire stations was supposed to get us a lower insurance rating and keep coverage costs down. What happened with that? My homeowners' policy is up 20% this year.

Don't know if the city of Claxton had any role in it, but I'm glad to see the cleanup around the old restaurant building on North Duval Street. Maybe the property owner(s) did it on their own. Whichever, thanks for taking Pride In Evans. Now if someone can take a bulldozer to that 'dope den' across from the bank.

I wish the paper would print an article explaining why gas prices are always 20-25 cents per gallon higher in Claxton than in Statesboro. It don't make any sense. Just gives me another reason to go over there to shop for everything else.

Heard on the television John Kerry saying something about a moral obscenity. Thought he was talking about Miley Cyrus and her performance at the MTV thing. Turns out he was talking about Syria. Miley's daddy must be very proud of his daughter.

Does Claxton have some kind of ordinance that requires property owners to keep the grass cut and the weeds removed? If not, the mayor and council ought to vote one in and enforce it. The old restaurant building on North Duval is an eyesore that makes the town look worse. If that's not bad enough, we still have that 'dope den' across from the bank...the one where the notorious video was filmed...the one the law enforcement are still investigating, I guess. The whole town needs a thorough 'clean up'. It looks worse than I've seen it in 30 years.

From the City Hall story in the June 5 edition of the Claxton Enterprise: “Royal says that a cost for a new building has not been discussed, nor has the city’s plan to pay for a new city hall.” Does anybody believe that statement? Seems that cost would be the first thing elected officials would talk about before voting to allow a no-bid site assessment and development of a proposal. Unless ... there's enough of the people's money in the bank that they don't have to be concerned about such trivial matters.
