Evans County C.A.R.E.S. held their annual celebration event on Friday evening, April 17, announcing $92,000 in funds raised to support local cancer patients and cancer research efforts. The event, held in the Evans County Wildlife Club main building, lasted from 7 p.m. to almost midnight.
More than 300 people were in attendance for this year’s festivities, a larger number than last year. “I thought we had an excellent turnout … little better than last year,” said Larry Anderson, C.A.R.E.S. vice president.  “We had a great participation (in fundraising). It shows a lot of commitment from all the teams that have worked year around to get this money raised.”
C.A.R.E.S. broke last year’s fundraising total of approximately $80,000, bringing in $92,000. “That’s almost $9 per man, woman and child in Evans County when you divide it by the population,” said C.A.R.E.S. President Bill Callaway.
