The weather was sunny, a strong wind blew as Claxton seniors graduated and embarked on a new journey Saturday morning, May 23, at Bell Memorial Field.
A large crowd attended the ceremony to watch 96 students march across the field to accept their diplomas. “It was a huge crowd,” said Dr. Joy Collins, school superintendent.
Matthew Brewton, class valedictorian, and Laura Hill, salutatorian, both addressed their fellow students and the crowd. “To me, the highlight was the valedictorian’s speech. He did a wonderful job. It was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard,” Collins said.
“The speeches were very classy,” said Dr. Justin Russell, CHS principal. Russell also addressed the students one last time during the commencement ceremony.
