A man was stabbed to death at approximately 11 p.m. last night (Tuesday, March 24) in Winnmeir Mobile Home Park in Claxton. The investigation is still ongoing. More details to be posted later. See next week's edition of The Claxton Enterprise for the full story.
GBI now investigating the stabbing death of an Evans County man
Sheriff Randall Tippins has requested the GBI investigate the death of James R. Mills. On Tuesday, March 24, law enforcement officers responded to a residence located on Winnmeir Drive where the victim, James R. Mills, was stabbed in his upper chest area.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Mills had been in a physical altercation with multiple subjects during the time he was stabbed. Mills was transported to Evans Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Demeris J. Mills, a cousin to the victim, was arrested in connection with the fight which lead to James Mills death. As of Wednesday evening, Demeris Mills had not been formerly charged.
The investigation is ongoing and other arrests may be pending. "We are still investigating," said Sheriff Tippins.
