Evans County, EMH negotiating management contract

Evans County, EMH negotiating management contract

More than 100 concerned citizens, some affiliated with Evans Memorial Hospital and others not, crowded into the Courthouse Annex meeting room and lined the hallway Tuesday night, November 18, for the first of three called meetings in the last week where county commissioners discussed possible negotiations with ER Hospitals (ERH), a management company proposing to take over day-to-day operations at EMH.
“We want to let you know that we are trying to do the best we can … as you know smaller hospitals are struggling all over the nation,” said County Commission Chairman Neal Hammack, opening Tuesday night’s meeting. “Everyone needs to pitch in and do what they can as far as using the hospital.”
Following Hammack’s opening statements, Commissioner Del Beasley made a motion to enter into negotiations with the hospital authority and ERH. “I make the motion that Evans County Commissioners move forward with contract negotiations of the proposal with Evans County Hospital Authority and ER Hospitals,” Beasley said.
