Please support the Claxton High School Band! For the next 4 weeks the members will be knocking on doors and calling Evans County residents to sell subscriptions to The Claxton Enterprise. They will receive 30% of each sale. Money is needed for band events, retiring a debt for new uniforms, and a used truck to transport the bank's instruments to games and events where they perform.

Maybe you recognize this scene from Claxton’s Railroad Street looking east. The tallest structure shown above, once known as the R.K. White building, was used as Evans County’s first courthouse following the creation of the county in 1914. The second and third floors of the building were rented to the county government as a location for handling the people’s business, at least until the existing courthouse was completed in 1923. This photo is provided courtesy of Chloe Mitchell, whose grandmother, Mrs. Ben E. Daniel, once owned the building. The Enterprise is now featuring photographs from our county's past as one way to help build interest in Evans County's Centennial Observance which will occur in August of 2014. Check our website and the ‘photo gallery’ for historical photos that are being added nearly every week to the ‘Evans County History’ album. To submit historical photos about Evans County for inclusion, contact us at: advertising@claxtonenterprise.com.

We want your help in providing news about Evans County people

If you know of someone with an interesting hobby, a life or career story that deserves sharing with our readers, please contact us at The Claxton Enterprise. We want to feature ordinary people who give themselves to their community, Church, and family. Particularly the ones who those work in the background and receive little recognition for their efforts. Ordinary or extraordinary, an employee that works extra hours at a less than appealing job or someone who has risen through the ranks to a higher level.
