2024: A year that brought flooding, storms, misery

Droughts are often the subject discussion among local residents. After all, the largest segment of our economy – agriculture – is still the backbone of rural parts of Georgia and, in particular, Evans County.

While most farmers have the irrigation equipment needed to replenish water-starved fields, there remains only hope and prayers to make it through heavy downpours that sometimes flood fields and streams, leaving crops to drown in their rows or attract disease and destructive insects.
