At the eleventh hour, the United States Postal Service (USPS) spared Bellville’s Village Post Office from closure and it will remain open. The USPS had planned to close the facility effective August 31, 2020, and relocate the boxes to the nearby Hagan Post Office.
The leaders of the town of Bellville, having approximately 200 residents within the city limits, were determined to keep its Village Post Office open for service. City Council members took legal action and wrote letters to USPS leaders in an attempt to stop the closure. More recently, they reached out to Senator David Perdue and Congressman Rick W. Allen asking for support.
Council member Derwood Tootle shared with council members an email he received late Wednesday (stating) …”The Bellville Village Post Office will continue to provide Post Office box service at this time.”
…While it is not clear which action, or actions, resulted in the continuation of the post office, it is welcome news none-the-less.
