Matilda Ann Moncrief, affectionately known as Tillie, passed away on January 31, 2024, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 65. She was born on December 30, 1958, in Brunswick, Georgia to Willie Groover Jr. and Betty Anderson Groover. Tillie’s life was filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her family and career. She worked part-time at her family’s florist shop, Reidsville Florist, where she loved doing wedding work. Matilda loved her job as a Social Worker with Action Pact. This role provided her with an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Her work with the Senior Center through Action Pact was one of her proudest accomplishments and passions. Beyond her professional endeavors, Tillie had many hobbies and passions that brought immense joy to her life. She had an incredible green thumb and found solace in gardening. One of Matilda’s greatest joys was spending time with her beloved grandchildren who affectionately called her Gran-T. She cherished every moment she spent with them. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Timothy Groover. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Don Moncrief of Claxton, Georgia; children, Heather Leone (Scott) of Glennville, Georgia, Andrew Moncrief (Janice) of Chesapeake, Virginia; siblings, Greg Groover of Rincon, Georgia, Gina Waters (David) of Claxton, Georgia; grandchildren, Kody Terrell (Whitney), Kaleb Terrell, Kaitlyn Cleveland (Ben), Caroline Grace Moncrief, Amelia Catherine Moncrief; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 3, at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services with Rev. Artis Carswell officiating.
