USDA Secretary Perdue due Friday; broadband ‘investment’ on agenda

PAC offering now service in Daisy

U.S. Agriculture Secretary and former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue will be in Evans County Friday afternoon for what the USDA says is to celebrate “…an important investment in high-speed internet broadband service in rural Georgia.”

Secretary Perdue’s visit comes as the USDA begins the first round of announcements for successful loan and grant applicants seeking to participate in project funding to help build broadband infrastructure in rural areas of the country.

Although no official USDA announcement of successful applicants had been made as of press deadline Tuesday, Pembroke Advanced Communications (PAC), a Bryan County company, was among companies that submitted an application to the USDA last June.

….PAC is now providing broadband Internet and will soon make available telephone service in Daisy and outlying areas near the community.

Noah Covington, PAC’s Director of Operations, said recently that the company’s expansion into the Daisy area began in early October and the first service there became available in mid-December….
